We have installed it on a couple of machines at work just to try it out. No problems so far

Uh, isn't it a little late to ask if there are issues with it after you have already installed it? Smiley

I've been asking around the last 5-6 weeks, since the free upgrade came out and so far no one has said anything negative about it .

So, I felt that it wouldn't be an issue, plus I have  recovery disc that I got with the computer .

That's generally true which is why we are trialling it on only a couple of PC's at work.  My team looks after over 500 PC's and we wouldn't dream of rolling it out to all of them for some time to come. We did the same trial approach with Windows 8 and as the first implementation in particular was rubbish we never went any further and are still almost 100% Windows 7.  Same goes for many other big organisations. Windows 10 is looking better since Microsoft have backed away from assuming every PC will have a  touch screen. It seems faster too and will give a performance improvement over the same spec machine running Windows 7.

That Microsoft have in the past often struck wide of the public wants and needs is no surprise to IT pros. Anyone who has undertaken Microsoft training will know they are not like the rest of us, not even on the same planet. Always know best and think there is only one way of doing things - their way.  Shame it has rarely matched reality.

Windows 10 to be fair bodes better for the future as they have indicated it will not be regularly replaced only upgraded with service packs. That would appear to remove the rational for Microsoft coming up with something radically different every few years just to rake in the money. We'll have to wait and see how that pans out.

I don't know if this is ture or not, but I have heard from IT specialists at work, that Microsoft has plans to stop supporting Windows 7 and 8 in the next 16 months or so .

Windows 10 does seem to be faster than the version of 8 that I had .

I' m going to be looking at a major upgrade in early 2016, with improving access to cloud based solutions for mission critical systems with access from anywhere, I am looking at IOS Apple systems with no need for internal servers as these are looked after by others.

Instant backup and support seems to be good, although cost (monthly) can be a little steep Sad

Still undecided and lots of thinking to do...

Are you still happy with it, Bob?  I've never even seen it on a computer.  I have 7 on our lap top and dislike updating stuff, but if it speeds the computer up (how is that even possible for a Microsoft update?!) I might try it.  On a rainy day or something.

So far no real issues, it doesn't seem to work well in chatrooms, keep getting kicked out of them .
I had Windows 8 installed on my current computer when I purchased it in April, 2014, it's also a very base model computer from HP, only paid $275 for it at Staples office supply .
Windows 10 is an improvement over 8, at least on this computer .

I installed it as soon as I could to get out from under Win8 and there have already been 2 or 3 large updates to it.  It seems to work well, but is not much faster than 8 loading, which was suppose to be one of its benefits.  It does get you away from the tiles and back to a more user friendly display screen.

I will tell you it makes things harder for developers to write software and installations for it - more security/certificate/authentication crap than you can shake a stick at - and which generally requires you cross the palms of one of MSoft's "certificate authorities" to pay for the right to allow your software to install on their OS.

I have  been very pleasantly surprised by Win10 on two laptops  both of which installed without a glitch. Most un-MS ! No problems with program compatibility either. So far so good.

The French car forum I frequent had a similar thread to this until a few days ago when the moderator had to lock the thread due to the "passion" being exhibited in some posts. Dangerous discussing religion, politics or operating systems ! Smiley

Planning to and actually doing it are two entirely different things. Microsoft set and erased several deadlines for cessation of support for XP and they are still supplying some updates for Win2000 based server products.
