Hello all,
As soon as I get things figured out I will post pics of my winter frame off refresh project on my 1984 R65. It's not going to be a museum piece, but rather a very clean rider.  Smiley

Hi there from Oz - have a great time with the work - I'm most of the way thru a complete rebuild of my R65. I gave the motor and gearbox to a specialist Boxer mechanic and had both of them completely overhauled. The barrels were shot and the heads needed attention too so I went for the 860 conversion - I ride a lot of Hilly areas where I live so the extra power will be very useful - especially two up.
.
look forward to the pictures too .....

It seems easier to fix the bike than sending pics. I'm sending them to the photo gallery, as I seem to be able to make that work for me.    Undecided

There's a file size limit for uploads - this forum is graciously hosted by a member.  A good way to share photos is to use a photo service (google, flickr, whatever Apple does, so forth, so on).  Then you can share links here and use bbcode to render the image in your posts even though it's hosted elsewhere.

What windscreen is that on your R65?

'86 R65 with '84 motor ~66000 miles.  SS lines, Spiegler rotor, Progressive monoshock, Keihan silencers, a piece of Pichler fairing.
'76 CB400F ~26000 miles.  Weepy SS lines, big dent in the tank.

I have set the max picture size to 1 Mb.  Our "attachments" directory on the server is humongous!  I didn't set a file size limit on the gallery but did limit the total size of a members stash.

It already looks better than mine 2cyl, so you can just call it done.

They told me to take many photos and get a good manual.

I purchased 2 manuals, both of which have their strengths and both of which came in very handy.

I did not properly heed the "take many photos". So my piece of advice is to take many photos.

Have fun. The feeling of achievement at the end is it's own reward.

And the bonus is that you also end up with great bike to ride!

With digital cameras and cell phones, the photo thing is so easy and such a huge thing as far as getting help nowadays.

You can get help and a diagnosis from all over the world with more clarity, especially if you're not mechanically inclined or new to the lingo.

And the big one for me is my lack of memory.  I take pictures of everything I do.  Both for the immediate purpose of being able to put things back together correctly, but also for future reference when I need to remember if, when, and how I did something.

As for the manuals, I do my best to read them, get online to check, then come here to verify all of that.

It used to be a trip to the library every time you needed a manual. If I had had YouTube in the 60"s I cudda ruled the World  Grin
