If memory serves, Clift Montgomery played Taps as a tribute to his friend, a young Frank Sinatra (Maggio?) who was stabbed by an equally youthful Ernest Borgnine.
From Here to Eternity, one of my favorite all-time. In my mind, Taps MADE the movie!
Thanks for the memory stimulant, Air.

Sorry to hear you may part with it, especially if you are not 100% certain you are done with riding.

When I got married 23 years ago, I made a deal with my then wife-to-be that she would never suggest that I get rid of the bike. In the intervening years, there were years when I did not ride much, and did not have the money to keep the bike in riding condition. Yet I kept it (and God bless her soul she never suggested that I sell it). Now, I am glad that I held on to it. Looking back, I am so glad I kept it until my head and wallet were back in the place to where I could and would ride it again.

YMMV

k_enn

BMW Technical Q&A, Primarily R65 - Maybe RMS replace?
Have you checked the clutch cable for proper adjustment, for the disengagement and re-engagement problems you are having ?
Clutch adj is ok, but i'll go over it again.
Is the ctuch cable hanging up/possibly worn, maybe needing cleaning and lube ?
Didn't see any hang ups, and unsure of the cleaning/lube part. I'll definitely do this when I get home. Don't know how old this cable is really - the PO to my knowledge didn't replace them.
Has a transmission input spline lube been done in recent memory ?
Thats a good question. I'm going to say no? Would dryish splines give me a jerky clutch? I've got the moly to lube the splines - perhaps I should do this soon.
The only sound that I have heard that is close is when I first got the R90 it had the round type breather valve and this make a Turkey sound changing to the new reed valve makes this stop. This may be some of what you are hearing.
Thats what I thought as well and on my last bike, a 90/6, I changed the valve to the new reed type and still got the turkey sound. I'll tell you, the sound certainly seems to be coming from that breather valve area. I'll check up on it and report back.

Thanks for the ideas...Hopefully its nothing too bad. I'll make sure to post what I find.
Yeah that front brake light switch is one of the first things the guy checked here in good 'ol Boston. The swap out to the new switch wasn't as bad as I thought, but I ended up having to bleed (and then just replace) the brake fluid afterwards. Works great now.

So that gobbling noise has actually sprung up. Sounds a lot like this here...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNkB1DivMnk

I've posted a thread in the tech section about it. Super nervous about replacing the rear main seal if it comes to that, but hey...gotta learn sometime. I read that thread with the reply from the BMW site in germany...where that noise is an audible indication that the RMS is going bad and will soon pour sweet sweet oil onto (perhaps) your clutch plates. Awesome.

Oh also got a spare points set and condenser. Going to clean the advance mechanism hopefully next week.

In the higher temps, it will start without the choke, but it won't continue to run on it's own without some choke .

In really hot weather, I use half choke to start, but again, it's not happy about running, until maybe a mile without it .

I don't know how the bikes were set up for the European market, but the US production bikes are set to the lean side for exhaust emissions compliance .

According to the Bing manual I have, the '81 model year production bikes were jetted the richest of the second generation twin shock bikes, the '82-'84 are even leaner .

From what I've seen in print, 15% ethanol fuel should be introduced in the Phoenix area sometime this summer .

Phoenix uses the same blend of fuel as southern California .

That is an odd one and the first time I've heard of it. Consider yourself fortunate it worked after gassing up.

I'd also check the trans oil and the drain magnet for slivers or chunks of the bright and shiny.
